"The superlative seven-piece band led by music director Matthew Stern illuminates all the colors within the 'Fun Home' score."
Boston Globe on FUN HOME (Speakeasy)
"This is, by far, one of the best musically directed shows I have ever seen on the regional level. Stern’s thoughtful work entered every phrase, melody and lyric — it’s stunning. The company’s tight harmonies and cohesive stylistic vocal choices were impeccable. My jaw was on the floor. I would love to work with Stern in the future, because it was a master class in musical direction."
Boston Musical Theatre on MERRILY (Huntington)
"Matthew Stern's musical direction is impeccable. All the elements are there in both cast and orchestra. It is incredibly refreshing to hear a cast deliver clean, unison consonant cut-offs...Vocally, there is not a weak link in this ensemble and they provide some of the best harmonic singing seen recently on a Boston stage."
EDGE Boston on VIOLET (Speakeasy)
"I'm not sure the music has ever been played in jauntier fashion than it is by Matthew Stern's band."
